The United States of America , to the sheriff of the county of St. Louis , Greeting,

We command you to attack Baptiste Morin, Nathaniel Prior & Ellen Thomas if they may be found within your bailwick and them immediately safely keep so that you may have their bodies before the judge of our circuit court now setting at the town of St. Louis , within and for the county of St. Louis , then there to answer unto the United States touching a certain contempt by them committed in not attending the court as witnesses in a certain matter now pending in our said court between the United States and summon a slave of Anthony Soulard a free being thereto legally summoned and have you then there this writ.

Witness Merry Philippe Ledue Clerk of our said court at the town of St. Louis aforesaid, this sixth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixteen and of the Independence of the United States of America the forty first Clk. St. L . C. C. C. P U.States
