                    <p>Know all men by these presents that we <lb/>
                        <persName>Nathan Humphrey</persName> as principal, and <persName>George H.<lb/>
                        Barrett</persName> as security, are firmly held and firmly bound<lb/>
                        unto the State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> each in the final <lb/>
                        sum of two hundred dollars for the true pay+<lb/>
                        ment of which we bind ourselves our heirs +<lb/>
                        executors and administrators firmly by these presents sealed with our seals this <date when="1843-05-03">3rd day May 1843</date>
               </p>
                    <p>The condition of the above obligation is such<lb/>
                        that whereas the County Court of St Louis County in the State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> has this day granted<lb/>
                        to the above named <persName>Nathan Humphreys</persName> a <lb/>
                        free man of color a cause to reside in the State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice>. Now of the said <persName>Nathan 
                        Humphreys</persName> shall properly demean himself<lb/>
                        and be of good behavior then this bond to be<lb/>
                        null and void otherwise to remain in full<lb/>
                        force and virtue</p>
