                    <p>Know all men by these presents that I <persName>George<lb/>
                        W Stocktin</persName> as principal and <persName>Louis Chareleville</persName>
                  <lb/>
                    as security are held and firmly bound unto the state of <lb/>
                    <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> the just and full sum of four hundred<lb/>
                    dollars for <unclear unit="words" quantity="2" rend="strikethrough"/> that is to say the said <persName>George W. Stocktin</persName>
                  <lb/>
                    and said <persName>Louis Charleville</persName> in the sum of two hundred<lb/>
                    dollars each for the true payment of which said sum<lb/>
                    of money we bind ourselves our and each of our heirs<lb/>
                    and <choice>
                     <orig>afsigns</orig>
                     
                  </choice> jointly &amp; severally firmly by these pres-<lb/>
                    ents sealed with our seals and dated this <date when="1943-05-04"> fourth<lb/>
                    day of May the year of our Lord one Thousand<lb/>
                    Eight hundred and forty three.</date>
               </p>
                    <p>The condition of the above obligation is such <lb/>
                        that whereas the said <persName> George W Stocktin</persName> has this<lb/>
                        day obtained from the County Court of St St Louis County<lb/>
                        a License to remain in this state under <lb/>
                      
                        the provision of an act of the General <choice>
                     <orig>Afsembly</orig>
                     
                  </choice>
                  <lb/>
                        of the state of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice>entitled "An act more <lb/>
                        effectually to prevent free persons of color from <lb/>
                        entering into the state and for other purposes approved <date when="1843-02-23">Feb 23rd 1843</date>
                  <lb/>
                        The conditions of the above obligations <lb/>
                    is such that if the said <gap/>
                  <lb/>
                    shall be of good behaviour during the <lb/>
                    continuance of said License then the <lb/>
                    above obligation to be void else to be and<lb/>
                    remain in full force &amp; virtue</p>
