                    <p>Know all men by these presents that I <persName>Pierre Alfred <lb/>
                        Marchand</persName> as principal and <persName>
                     <del rend="strikethrough">
                        <unclear unit="word" quantity="1"/>
                     </del>
                     <add place="above">Louis</add> Charleville</persName>_ <lb/>
                        as security, are held and firmly bound to the State <lb/>
                        of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> as follows, the said <persName>Pierre Alfred Marchand</persName> 
                  <lb/>
                        in the sum of Two hundred dollars and the said <persName>
                     <del rend="strikethrough"/> 
                     <lb/>
                        <del rend="strikethrough">
                        <unclear unit="chars" quantity="3"/>
                     </del> 
                     <add place="above">Louis</add> Charleville</persName> in the sum of Two hundred dollars, <lb/>
                        for the payment of which sum of money, to be well and <lb/>
                        faithfully made, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors <lb/>
                        and administrators, firmly by these presents. Sealed <lb/>
                        with our seals and dated this <date when="1843-06-21">twenty first day of <lb/>
                        June A.D. 1843</date>.
                    </p>
                    <p>This obligation is such, that whereas on the <date when="1843-06-21">21<hi rend="superscript">st</hi> 
                     <lb/>
                        day of June 1843</date>, the County Court of Saint Louis <lb/>
                        County hath granted a license to the said <persName>Pierre Alfred <lb/>
                        Marchand</persName> to remain in the State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> so long <lb/>
                        as he shall be of good behavior, in accordance with <lb/>
                        an act "entitled "an act more effectually to prevent free <lb/>
                        persons from entering into this state, and for other <lb/>
                        purposes" approved <date when="1843-02-23">Feb. 23, 1843</date>.
                    </p>
                    <p>Now if the above bounden <persName>Pierre Alfred Marchand</persName> 
                  <lb/>
                        shall well demean &amp; conduct himself &amp; be of good <lb/>
                        behavior during the continuance of the above license <lb/>
                        in the State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> then this obligation to be <lb/>
                        void, otherwise to remain in full force and effect.
                    </p>
