                    <p>Know all men by these presents that we <persName>Robert Castle</persName> as principal <lb/>
                        and <persName>J.J. Clark</persName> as security both of the County of Saint Louis and State of <lb/>
                        <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> are held and firmly bound unto the State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> in the just <lb/>
                        and full sum of two hundred dollars for the payment of which sum well <lb/>
                        and truly to be made we bind ourselves our heirs and legal representatives
                    </p>
                    <p>Witness our hands and seals at Saint Louis this <date when="1843-05-04">fourth day of <lb/>
                        May in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and forty three</date>._
                    </p>
                    <p>The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the <lb/>
                        County Court of the County of St. Louis has granted to the said <persName>Robert Castle</persName> 
                  <lb/>
                        as license to reside in the State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> under the provisions of an <lb/>
                        act entitled "an act mroe effectually to prevent free persons of color <lb/>
                        from entering into this State and for other purposes" approved <date when="1843-02-23">Feb. <lb/>
                        23, 1843</date> _ Now if the said <persName>Robert Castle</persName> shall be of good behavior <lb/>
                        as required by said act then this bond to be void and of no effect other- <lb rend="hyphen"/>
                        wise to remain in full force and virtue
