                <p>Know all men by these presents that we<persName>Lucinda<lb/>
                Thompson</persName> as principal and <persName>Jerry Thompson</persName>
                  <add place="above">+ <persName>William Littleton</persName> 
                  </add>as security<lb/>
                are held and firmly bound unto the State of <lb/>
                Missouri in the just and full sum of Two<lb/>
                Hundred dollars each for the true payment of which<lb/>
                sum of money we bind ourselves executors administrators<lb/>
                and assigns jointly and severally by these presents sealed <lb/>
                with our seals and dated this <gap/> day of <lb/>
                March Eighteen hundred and forty four</p>
                <p>The condition of this obligation is such that <lb/>
                whereas <persName>Lucinda Thompson</persName> has this day obtained<lb/>
                from the County Court of the County of St Louis<lb/>
                a license to remain in the State of Missouir<lb/>
                as  a free person of color under the provisions<lb/>
                "an act entitled an act to more effectually<lb/>
                prevent free persons of color from entering into<lb/>
                the State and other purposes" Now the condition<lb/>
                of this bond is such that if the said <persName>Lucinda<lb/>
                Thompson</persName> shall be of good character behavior<lb/>
                during the continuance of said license<lb/>
                then the above obligation to be null and void<lb/>
                Otherwise to be and remain in full force and <lb/>
                virtue in Law</p>
