                    <p>Know all men by these presents that we <lb/>
                        <persName>Jim</persName> (a man of Colour) as Principal and <persName>William K <lb/>
                        Rule</persName> as Surety acknowledge ourselves to owe <lb/>
                        and be indebted unto the State of Missouri in <lb/>
                        the Penal Sum of_each two hundred Dollars <lb/>
                        for the payment whereof we bind ourselves our heirs &amp; administrators_
                    </p>
                    <p>The Condition of the above obligation is <lb/>
                        such that whereas the County Court of <lb/>
                        of Saint Louis County in said State, have th<gap unit="chars" quantity="2" reason="damage"/> 
                  <lb/>
                        day Granted unto the said <persName>Jim</persName> (a man of_ <lb/>
                        Colour) a free negro, a license to remain in said <lb/>
                        State now if the said <persName>Jim</persName> shall be of good <lb/>
                        behavior as provided by the act of said <lb/>
                        State passed at the session of the Legislator <lb/>
                        for 1842_3_ and approved on the <date when="1843-02-23">23rd Feby <lb/>
                        1843</date> then this obligation to be void otherwise <lb/>
                        to remain in full force and virtue_
