                  </unclear> in the Territory
                        of <unclear rend="written" unit="chars">

                        and there <lb/>worked for his master in the <unclear rend="written" unit="chars">
                     <supplied>business</supplied>
                  </unclear> of <unclear rend="written" unit="chars">
                     <supplied>mining</supplied>
                  </unclear> at or
                        <lb/>about said period. That he has remained in said place<lb/>for a space
                        of about eight years, by and with the <lb/>consent and direction of the said
                        <persName>

                  </persName>. <lb/>That said Territory is a portion of the <placeName>

                        <orig>United States</orig>

                        <lb/>in which slavery is not allowed by the laws of the <lb/>

                        and therefore your petitioner belives he is <lb/>fully entitled to his
                        freedom. </p>
               <p>Wherefore he prays the Honorable Court, that <lb/>an order may be granted, allowing the
                        petitioner to sue in <lb/>the <orgName>
