                    <p>Know all Men by These Presents,<lb/> That I <persName>William Jewell</persName> of the county of Boone and State of Missouri have<lb/>
                        fully and voluntarily manumited and sit free and by these presents do fully and voluntarily and set free<lb/> my negro man known and called<lb/>
                        Manuel, alias Emanuel, alias Manly, of<lb/> dark complexion and aged about thir<lb/>ty five years: and I do these presents<lb/>
                        <unclear unit="chars" rend="written"/>, discharge and for<unclear unit="chars" rend="written"/> absolve<lb/>
                        said negro from all obligations to per<lb/>form service for me in future and<lb/> 
                  <unclear unit="chars" rend="written"/> all right and title to him.</p> 
               <p>In testimony whereof I have here<lb/>to set my hand and seal this<lb/> day of <date when="1847-03">March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred<lb/> and forty seven (1847)</date>

                        <p>Be it remembered that on this <date when="1847-03-20">Twen<lb/>tieth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and<lb/> forty seven</date>, personally came into open<lb/> court, <persName>William Jewell</persName> who is person<lb/>ally known to the judge of this court to be<lb/>
                            the person whose name is subscribed to the<lb/> written and forgoing deed of Manumission<lb/> or <unclear unit="chars" rend="written"/> of writing as a party thereto<lb/> and as having executed the same and<lb/> acknowledged said deed to be his act and deed hand and seal for the purpose therein<lb/> mentioned: which was <unclear unit="chars" rend="written"/> to <unclear unit="chars" rend="written"/>
                  <lb/> 
                  <unclear unit="chars" rend="written"/> and is here done accordingly<lb/>
               </p>
                        <p>In testimony whereof, I hereto subscribe<lb/> my name and affix the seal of said circuit court at office in <lb/> Columbia on this day and year afor<lb/> said Robert S Todd Clerk.</p>

                  <persName>William Jewell</persName> to <persName>Manuel, Emanuel or Manley</persName> a slave<lb/> was produced before me Clerk of the Circuit Court and <unclear unit="chars" rend="written"/>
                  <lb/> officio Recorder for Boone County on the <date when="1847-03-20"> Twentieth day of<lb/> March in the year Eighteen hundred and forty seven<lb/>
                  </date> and with the certificate thereon is duly rended in<lb/> Book 2 pages 125 &amp; 126 Given under my hand<lb/> as recorder aforesaid with the seal of<lb/> said <unclear unit="chars" rend="written"/> hereto affixed at office in Col<lb/>umbia on this day and year aforesaid<lb/> Robert L Todd<lb/> Clerk &amp; recorder</p>
