                    <p>Know all men by these presents that<lb/>
                    we <persName>Henry Tate</persName> as principal and <persName>Oliver<lb/>
                        Bennett</persName> as security, of the county of St. <lb/>
                    Louis State Missouri are held and<lb/>
                    firmly bound into the State of Misouri<lb/>
                    in the Sum of Two Hundred Dollars<lb/>
                    to pair by us to the said State of<lb/>
                        Missouri to which payment well and<lb/>
                        truly to be made. We do hereby bind<lb/>
                        ourselves our heir, executors, administrators<lb/>
                        and each and every on of <gap unit="words" quantity="1"/> for truly <lb/>
                        by these presents sealed with our seals<lb/>
                        and dated the third day of May A.D. <lb/>
                        Eighteen Hundred and forty three</p>
                    <p>The condition of this obligation is <lb/>
                        such, that whereas the County Court<lb/>
                        of Saint Louis County has this day<lb/>
                        granted to the said <persName>Henry Tate</persName> a<lb/>
                        free colored man, a license to reside<lb/>
                        within this state; Now therefore if <lb/>
                        the said <persName>Henry Tate,</persName> during his resi<lb/>
                        dence in the said state of Missouri<lb/>
                        shall well and truly conduct himself in<lb/>
                        an honest, moral sober and upright man<lb/>
                        ner as a good citizen, orderly and be of <lb/>
                        good behavior, then this oligation to be <lb/>
                        void and of no effect, otherwise to <lb/>
                        remain in full force and virtue in law.
