                    <p>Know all men by these presents that I <persName>Felicity</persName> 
                  <lb/>
                        as principal and <persName>PL Chouteau</persName> 
                  <lb/>
                        as security are held and firmly bound unto the <lb/>
                        State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> in the just and full sum of four <lb/>
                        hundred dollars for the true payment of which <lb/>
                        said sum of money we bind ourselves one and <lb/>
                        each of our heirs executors administrators <lb/>
                        and <choice>
                     <orig>afsigns</orig>
                     
                  </choice> jointly and severally firmly by <lb/>
                        these presents sealed with our seals and dated <lb/>
                        the <date when="1843-05-03">
                     <del rend="strikethrough">twenty</del> third day of May in the year of <lb/>
                        our Lord one thousand eight hundred and <lb/>
                        forty three</date>.
                    </p>
                    <p>The condition of the above obli- <lb rend="hyphen"/>
                        gation is such that whereas the said <persName>Felicity</persName> 
                  <lb/>
                        has this day obtained from the County <lb/>
                        Court of St Louis County a license to remain <lb/>
                        in this state under the provision of an act <lb/>
                        of the General <choice>
                     <orig>Afsembly</orig>
                     
                  </choice> of the State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifs- <lb rend="hyphen"/> ouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice>
                        entitled "An Act more effectually <lb/>
                        to prevent free persons of color from entering <lb/>
                        into this state and for other purposes" approved <lb/>
                        <date when="1843-02-23">February twenty third in the year of our Lord <lb/>
                        one thousand eight hundred and forty <lb/>
                        three</date>. Now if the said <persName>Felicity</persName> 
                  <lb/>
                        shall be of good behavior during the <lb/>
                        continuance of said license then the above obligation to be void else to be and remain <lb/>
                        in full force and virtue
