                    <p>Know all men by these presents that I<persName> Joseph<lb/>
                        Cooke</persName>___as principal and <persName>Ralph Bird</persName> +
                            <persName>Valentin L Pearse</persName>
                  <lb/> as security are held and
                        firmly bound, unto <lb/> the State of
                                <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> in the
                        final sum of <lb/> four hundred dollars for the payment<lb/> of which sum
                        well and truly to be made<lb/> the said <persName>Joseph Cooke</persName> as
                        principal<lb/> and the said <persName>Ralph Bird</persName> + <persName>V.
                            I. Pears</persName> as security hereby<lb/> bind themselves, their
                        heirs, executors and<lb/> administrators, firmly by these presents,
                        sealed<lb/> with their seals and dated this <date when="2012-05-03">
                        third</date> day<lb/> of May A.D. 1843 ___________. Now<lb/>
               </p>
                    <p>the condition of this Bond is such that whereas<lb/>
                        the County Court of Saint Louis County hath<lb/>
                        granted to the above bounder <persName>Joseph Cooke</persName>
                  <lb/>
                        a license to reside and remain in the State<lb/>
                        of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> according to the Statute in such<lb/>
                        case make and juorieded______. Now if <lb/>
                        the said <persName>Joseph Cooke</persName> shall be of good behaviour while he remain in said State,<lb/>
                        then this bond to be void, otherwise to __<lb/>
                        remain in full force</p>
