                    <p>Know all men by these presents that we <lb/>
                        <persName>Moses Amwood</persName> 
                  <persName>Thomas <del rend="strikethrough">Amwood</del>
                     <add place="above">F Risk</add>
                  </persName> of the city and county <lb/>
                        of St Louis and State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> are held and firmly <lb/>
                        bound by the these presents to the State <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> 
                  <lb/>
                        in the Sum of five hundred dollars good &amp; Lawful <lb/>
                        money of the United States the payment of which <lb/>
                        we hereby hind ourselves our heirs executors adm- <lb rend="hyphen"/>
                        inistrators &amp; assigns
                    </p>
                    <p>The condition of the above <lb/>
                        obligation is such that whereas the said <persName>Moses <lb/>
                            Amwood</persName> a free person of colour of the city of <lb/>
                        St Louis &amp; State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> aforesaid has this <lb/>
                        day obtained a license from the county court <lb/>
                        of St Louis State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> under &amp; in persu- <lb rend="hyphen"/>
                        ance of an act instituted an act the more <lb/>
                        effectually to prevent free persons of colour <lb/>
                        from entering the State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> &amp; other <lb/>
                        purposes approved <date when="1843-02-23">February twenty third AD 1843</date> 
                  <lb/>
                        Now therefore if the said <persName>Moses Amwood</persName> shall <lb/>
                        continue of good moral character and behavior &amp; <lb/>
                        to support himself by lawful <sic>imployment</sic> 
                  <lb/>
                        then this obligation to be void &amp; null otherwise to <lb/>
                        remain in full force &amp; effect
                    </p>
