                  </unclear>
                  <lb/> the property of one James Cheston who sold her to <persName>

                  </persName> in<lb/> the year eighteen hundred and thirty six to serve until the <date when="1842-10-01">first day of October<lb/> 1842</date> when she is to be free from slavery forever, that said said sale<lb/> was made in in the state of <placeName>

                  </placeName>, from <unclear rend="written" unit="chars"/> not withstanding<lb/> it was contrary to the laws of said said State the said <persName>

                  <lb/> her off to some of the southern States there to sell her &amp; make her a slave<lb/> for <unclear rend="strikethrough" unit="chars">slave</unclear> life as she has been informed &amp; <unclear rend="written" unit="chars"/> believes that she is now confined<lb/> in the jail of St Louis County in a short time to be shipped to the southern<lb/> market for sale, wherefore the said complainants prays that the<lb/> said <persName>
