                    <p>Know all men by these Presents <unclear unit="words" quantity="1" rend="strikethrough">that</unclear> we<lb/>
                    <persName>James Green</persName> as principal and <persName>Nathaniel I Janney</persName>
                  <lb/>
                    as security are held and firmly bound unto the<lb/>
                    state of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> in the penal sum of Two Hundred<lb/>
                    Dollars each for the true payment of which we bind<lb/>
                    ourselves our heirs and executors and administrators<lb/>
                    firmly by these presents sealed with our seals<lb/>
                        this <date when="1843-12-18">eighteenth day of december 1843</date>
               </p>
                    <p>The condition fo the above obligation is<lb/>
                    such, that whereas the County Court for the County<lb/>
                    of Saint Louis as the December term thereof<lb/>
                    1843 has granted a Licence to the said <persName>James Green</persName>
                  <lb/>
                    a free man of Color to reside in the State of<lb/>
                    <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice>, Now if the said <persName>James Green</persName> shall<lb/>
                    be of good behaviour during his residence in<lb/>
                    the State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice>, then this obligation to be<lb/>
                    null and void otherwise to remain<unclear unit="words" quantity="2" rend="strikethrough"> in full </unclear> force<lb/>
