                    <p>Know all men by these presents that we, <persName>Julius Hawkins</persName>
                  <lb/>
                    as principal and <persName>John P. Moore</persName> as security are held<lb/>
                    and firmly bound unto the State of Missouri in the Just<lb/>
                        and full sum of <add place="above">Five <unclear unit="words" quantity="1" rend="strikethrough">Hundred</unclear>
                  </add>
                  <unclear unit="words" quantity="1" rend="strikethrough">Two</unclear> hundrd Dollars <add place="above">cash</add> for the true<lb/>
                    payment of which sum of money we bind ourselves<lb/>
                    our heirs, our Executors, administrators and assigns<lb/>
                    justly and severally, by these presents, sealed wit <lb/>
                    our seals and ated this<date when="1843-06-20">Twentieth - day of <lb/>
                    June, in the Year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and <lb/>
                        forty three</date>. The condition of this obligation is such,<lb/>
                    that whereas <persName>Julius Hawkins</persName> has this day obtained<lb/>
                    from the County Court of St. Louis County, a license <lb/>
                    to remain in this State as a free person of color,<lb/>
                        under the provisions of an act, Entitled <sic>and</sic> act<lb/>
                    more effectually to prevent free persons of color<lb/>
                    from entering into the State and <add place="above"> for </add> other purposes<lb/>
                    approved <date when="1843-02-23"> 23d February 1843.</date>
               </p>
                    <p>Now the Condition of this Bond is such that<lb/>
                    if the said <persName>Julius Hawkins</persName> shall be of good behaviour<lb/>
                    during the continuance of said license, then the<lb/>
                    above obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in<lb/>
                    full force and virtue</p>
