                    <p>Know all men by these presents that we <lb/>
                        <persName>Clarinda Buckner</persName> as principal and <lb/>
                        <persName>Alexander Phillippi</persName> as surety are holden <lb/>
                        and stand firmly bound and obliged unto <lb/>
                        the State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> in the full and <lb/>
                        just sum of Four Hundred Dollars, to wit <lb/>
                        the said <persName>Clarinda Buckner</persName> in the sum <lb/>
                        of Two Hundred Dollars and the said <persName>Alex- <lb rend="hyphen"/>
                        ander Phillippi</persName> in the sum of Two <lb/>
                        Hundred Dollars, to the full and just payment <lb/>
                        of which we do bind ourselves, our heirs, executors <lb/>
                        and administrators firmly by these presents, <lb/>
                        sealed with our seals, and signed, and dated <lb/>
                        the <date when="1843-05-02">second day of May in the year of our <lb/>
                        Lord one thousand eight hundred &amp; forty three</date>.
                    </p>
                    <p>The condition of this obligation is <lb/>
                        such that whereas the said <persName>Clarinda Buckner</persName> 
                  <lb/>
                        has applied to the County Court of this <del rend="strikethrough">State of <lb/>
                        <choice>
                        <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                        
                     </choice>
                  </del> County of St. Louis State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> for leave <lb/>
                        to reside in said state, and for a license from said <lb/>
                        Court to that effect under the provisions of an <lb/>
                        Act of the legislation of said state entitled "An <lb/>
                        act more effectually to prevent free persons of color <lb/>
                        from coming into this state" &amp; for other purposes; 
                    </p>
                    <p>Now if the said <persName>Clarinda Buckner</persName> shall <lb/>
                        be of good behavior during the continuance <lb/>
                        of the license granted by said Court then <lb/>
                        this bond shall be void. otherwise shall <lb/>
                        remain in full force &amp; virtue _
