                  </unclear> of the plaintiff held and<lb/>

                     <supplied>owned</supplied>
                  </unclear> the mother of the plaintiff<lb/> as his slave; that some <unclear rend="written" unit="chars">
                     <supplied>years</supplied>
                  </unclear>
                  <lb/> ago the said mother of the<lb/> plaintiff removed said plaintiff,<lb/> or caused said plaintiff to be re<lb/>

moved out of this state and repre<lb/>sented to defendant that plaintiff<lb/> was dead; that so soon as the<lb/> return of plaintiff to this state came<lb/> to the <unclear rend="written" unit="chars">

                  </unclear> of defendant,<lb/> defendant caused her to be <unclear rend="written" unit="chars">
                     <supplied>apprehended</supplied>

                  <lb/> and lodged in jail<lb/> as his slave and soon thereafter,<lb/> that is to say on or about the Ninth<lb/> day of <date when="1859-06-09">June in the year 1859</date> without notice that said plaintiff claimed to be entitled to freedom sold<lb/> and <unclear rend="written" unit="chars">
