                    <p>Know all men by these presents that we <lb/>
                        <persName>Mary Morow</persName> and <persName>Jesse Dempsy</persName> the <lb/>
                        husband of said Mary as principal a free <lb/>
                        person of color and <persName>George Johnson</persName> as security <lb/>
                        are held and firmly bound unto the State <lb/>
                        of Missouri in the just and full sum of <lb/>
                        two Hundred dollars for the true payment <lb/>
                        of which said sum of money we bind ourselves <lb/>
                        one and each of our heirs executors administra- <lb rend="hyphen"/>
                        tors and assigns jointly and severally, firmly <lb/>
                        by these presents sealed with our seals and da- <lb rend="hyphen"/>
                        ted this the <date when="1843-05-03">third day of May in the year <lb/>
                        of our Lord one eighteen hundred and <lb/>
                        forty-three</date>.
                    </p>
                    <p>The condition of the above obli- <lb rend="hyphen"/>
                        gation is such, that whereas the said <lb/>
                        <persName>Mary Morow</persName> has this day obtained from <lb/>
                        the county Court of St. Louis county a <lb/>
                        license to remain in this state as a free <lb/>
                        woman of color, under the provisions of an <lb/>
                        act of the General Assembly of the State of <lb/>
                        Missouri entitled "An Act to prevent <lb/>
                        free person of color from entering into this <lb/>
                        state and for other purposes" Now if the <lb/>
                        <persName>Mary Morow</persName> shall be of good behavior <lb/>
                        <del rend="strikethrough">during h</del> then the above obligation to be void <lb/>
                        else the same to be and remain in full <lb/>
                        force and virtue
