                    <p>Know all men by these presents that we <lb/>
                        <persName>James M<hi rend="superscript">c</hi>Call</persName> as principal and <persName>Cha<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. W Schaumburg</persName> 
                  <lb/>
                        as security are held and firmly bound unto the <lb/>
                        State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> in the just and full sum of <lb/>
                        Two hundred Dollars for the true payment of <lb/>
                        which said sum of money, we bind ourselves, our <lb/>
                        heirs, our executors, administrators and <choice>
                     <orig>afsign</orig>
                     
                  </choice>
                  <gap unit="chars" quantity="1" reason="damage"/> 
                  <lb/>
                        jointly and severally by these presents; sealed <lb/>
                        with our seals and dated this <date when="1843-05-04">Fourt day of May <lb/>
                        in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and <lb/>
                        forty three</date>_ The condition of this <lb/>
                        obligation is such that whereas <persName>James M<hi rend="superscript">c</hi>Call</persName> 
                  <lb/>
                        _ has this day obtained a license from <lb/>
                        the County Court of St Louis County, to remain <lb/>
                        in this State as a free person of color, under <lb/>
                        the provisions of an act entitled "an act <lb/>
                        more effectually to prevent free person<gap unit="chars" quantity="1" reason="damage"/> 
                  <lb/>
                        of color from entering into this State and <lb/>
                        for other purposes" <sic>Aproved</sic> 
                  <date when="1843-02-23">23, Feb. 1843</date>
                    </p>
                    <p>Now the condition of this bond is that <lb/>
                        if the said <persName>James M<hi rend="superscript">c</hi>Call</persName> shall be of <lb/>
                        good behavior during the continuance <lb/>
                        of said license then the above obligation <lb/>
                        to be void otherwise to remain in full <lb/>
                        force and virtue
                    </p>
