                    <p>Know all men by these presents that we<lb/>
                        <persName>Emily Mason</persName> as principal and <persName>Lyman<lb/>
                            B Shaw</persName> as security are held and firmly<lb/>
                        bound unto the State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> in the first<lb/>
                        and full sum of Two hundred Dollars for<lb/> 
                        the true payment of which sum of money we<lb/>
                        bind ourselves, our heirs, our Executors, administra<lb/>
                        tors and <choice>
                     <orig>afsigns</orig>
                     
                  </choice>, jointly and severally by<lb/>
                        these presents sealed with our seals and<lb/>
                        dated <date when="1843-05-04">this Fourth day of May in the year<lb/>
                            or our Lord Eighteen hundred + forty three</date>
                  <lb/>
                        the condition of this obligation is such<lb/>
                        that whereas <persName>Emily Mason</persName>has this day<lb/>
                        obtained from the county court of St<lb/>
                        Louis County, a license to remain in<lb/>
                        the State as a free person of color<lb/>
                        under the provisions of our act Entitled<lb/>
                        "An Act more effectually to prevent free<lb/>
                        persons of color from entering into this<lb/>
                        State and other purposes" Approved<lb/>
                        <date when="1843-02-23">23 February 1843</date>
                    </p>
                    <p>Now the condition of this bond is such that if the said <persName>Emily Mason</persName>
                  <lb/>
                        shall be of good behavior during<lb/>
                        the continuance of said license then<lb/>
                        the above obligation to be void otherwise<lb/>
                        to remain in full force + virtue<lb/>
                    </p>
