                    <p>Know all men by these presents that we <persName>James Edwards</persName>, as <lb/>
                        principal and <persName>John P Moore</persName> as Security, acknowledge ourselves <lb/>
                        to owe and be indebted unto the State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> in the penal <lb/>
                        sum of Six hundred dollars, for the payment whereof we bind ourselves, <lb/>
                        our heirs, executors and administrators _
                    </p>
                    <p>The condition of the above obligation is such that, whereas the County Court <lb/>
                        of Saint Louis County in said State, have this day granted unto the said <lb/>
                        <persName>James Edwards</persName>, a free negro, a license to remain in said State_ <lb/>
                        now is the said <persName>James Edwards</persName> shall be of good behavior_ as <lb/>
                        is provided in the Act of the said State <choice>
                     <orig>pafsed</orig>
                     
                  </choice> at the <choice>
                     <orig>sefsion</orig>
                     
                  </choice> of the <lb/>
                        legislation for 1843_3_ and appoved on <date when="1843-02-23">23 Feb. 1843</date>_ then this <lb/>
                        obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and <lb/>
                        virtue.
