                    <p>Know all men by these presents that we <persName>Sukey</persName>, _ <lb/>
                        _ as principal and <persName>James Smith</persName> as security are <lb/>
                        held and firmly bound in the just and full sum of two <lb/>
                        hundred dollars each to the State of Missouri, the payment <lb/>
                        whereof well and truly to be made we bind ourselves our <lb/>
                        heirs executors and administrators firmly by these presents;
                    </p>
                    <p>The condition of this obligation is such that <lb/>
                        whereas the said <persName>Sukey</persName>_ has this day obtained <lb/>
                        from the Honorable the County Court of S Louis County a <lb/>
                        license to reside and remain in the State of Mis- <lb rend="hyphen"/>
                        souri as a free person of color under the provisions <lb/>
                        of an act entitedl" An act to prevent more effectually <lb/>
                        free persons of color from entering into this state and for <lb/>
                        other purposes" approved <date when="1843-02-23">23<hi rend="superscript">rd</hi> February 1843</date>.
                    </p>
                    <p>Now if the said <persName>Sukey</persName>_ shall be <lb/>
                        of good behavior during the continuance of said license <lb/>
                        then the above obligation is void otherwise to remain <lb/>
                        in full force and virtue.
