                    <p>Know all men by these presents that we <persName>Polly Wash</persName> as principal <lb/>
                        and <persName>Elijah Hayden</persName> as security each acknowledge <lb/>
                        themselves indebted <del rend="strikethrough">to the</del> held and firmly bound <lb/>
                        to the State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> in the sum of two hundred <lb/>
                        Dollars for the payment of which sum well &amp; truly <lb/>
                        to be made we do each of us bind ourselves our <lb/>
                        heirs executors &amp; administrators firmly by these <lb/>
                        presents _In testimoney whereof we have hereunto <lb/>
                        set our hands &amp; seals this <date when="1843-09-26">26<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> day of September <lb/>
                        1843</date> _
                    </p>
                    <p>The Condition of this Obligation is such <lb/>
                        that whereas the County Court of St Louis County <lb/>
                        has this day granted to the said <persName>Polly Wash</persName> a <lb/>
                        free Woman of Colour a license to reside in this <lb/>
                        State, Now if the said <persName>Polly Wash</persName> during her <lb/>
                        residence in this State shall be of good behaviour <lb/>
                        then this obligation shall be null &amp; void <lb/>
                        Otherwise to be in full force &amp; virtue in law
