                    <p>Know all men by these presents that We <persName>John<lb/>
                    Powell</persName> as principal an <persName>Charles Ricker</persName>
                  <lb/>
                    as security are held and firmly bound into the<lb/>
                    State of Missouri in the just and full sum of Two<lb/>
                    hundred dollars each for the true payment<lb/>
                    of which sum of money we bind ourselves executors<lb/>
                    adminsitrators and assigns jointly and severally<lb/>
                    by these presents sealed with our seals and dated <lb/>
                    this <date when="1843-11-14">fourteenth day of November Eighteen hundred +<lb/>
                        forty three </date>The condition of this obligation is <lb/>
                        such that whereas <persName>John Powell</persName> has this <lb/>
                        day obtained from the county court of the <lb/>
                        county of S Louis a license to remain in<lb/>
                    the Sate of Missouri as a free person<lb/>
                    of Color made the provisions of an act entitled<lb/>
                    an act to more effectually prevent free<lb/>
                    persons of color from entering into the State<lb/>
                    and other purposes" Now the condition of
                        this bond is such that if the said <persName>John<lb/>
                        Powell</persName> shall be of good behaviour during th<lb/>
                        the continuance of said license then<lb/>
                        the above obligationto be null and void<lb/>
                        Otherwise to be and remain in full force an<lb/>
                        virtue in Law<lb/>
                    </p>
