                    <p>To all whom it may concern, be it hereby <lb/>
                        made known, that I <persName>Thomas J. Mason</persName> of the County <lb/>
                        of St. Louis and State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice>, for divers good causes <lb/>
                        and considerations me thereunto moving, and also in further <lb/>
                        consideration of one dollar current money to me in hand, <lb/>
                        the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have released <lb/>
                        from Slavery, liberated and manumitted and set free, <lb/>
                        and by these presents do hereby release from Slavery, <lb/>
                        liberate, manumit and set free my negro Boy, named <lb/>
                        <persName>Martin Griffin</persName>, being of the age of thirty five Years, <lb/>
                        and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood <lb/>
                        and maintenance; and him the said Negro Boy named <lb/>
                        <persName>Martin Griffin</persName>, I do declare to be henceforth free, man- <lb rend="hyphen"/>
                        -umitted and discharged from all manner of Servitude <lb/>
                        and Service to me, my executors or administrators for- <lb rend="hyphen"/>

                    <p>Be it remembered that on this <date when="1846-04-30">Thirtieth <lb/>
                        day of April Eighteen hundred and forty six</date>, in open <lb/>
                        Court personally appeared <persName>Robert M. Hanna</persName> and <persName>Jacob <lb/>
                        Cooper</persName> two credible <choice>
                     <orig>witnefses</orig>
                     
                  </choice> who being duly examined <lb/>
                        upon oath prove the execution of the within Deed of <lb/>
                        Emancipation from <persName>Thomas J. Mason</persName> to <persName>Martin Grif- <lb rend="hyphen"/>
                        -fin</persName>, which said proof of acknowledgement is entered <lb/>
                        of the Record of the Court of that day. Seal In <lb/>
                        Testimony Whereof I <persName>John Ruland</persName> Clerk of said Court <lb/>
                        have hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of said Court at Offive in the City of St. Louis the day

                        Girffin</persName> as fully as the same remains on file in my <lb/>
                        Office.
