William Clark / who sues for the use of the united states / complains of Horace Austin of a plea of Trespass on the case for that the said defendant on the seventeenth day of august in the year one thousand eight hundred Eleven at the town and district of Saint Louis , by his certain promisory note of that date by him by the name of Horace Austin , and to the said William then & there delivering promising him by the name of Gen. William Clark to pay to him or order in five days from the date of said note the the sum of one hundred forty eight dollars. value received

For the said Defendant though often required hath ever refusing the same form of money to the plaintiff to pay to his damages for the use of the United States the sum of three Hundred Dollars Wherefore he sues.
