 Complaint Bird, G.A. St. Louis County Court State of Missouri Circuit Court Third Judicial, Circuit, July Term AD 1835 St Louis County

Daniel , by his attorney complains of Robert , of, a plea of trespass, assault & Battery & false imprisonment for that heretofor towit on the third day of April in the year of eighteen hundred & thirty five at St Louis in said County the said defendant with force & and arms an asault did make him said Daniel , him said Daniel , did then & there beat, wound, illtreat & imprison & hath kept & detained, him in prison there from the day last aforesaid to this day without, any Lawful or probable, cause And the plaintiff said, that before & at the time of committing the said several he was and still is a free person & that said defendant held & detained & still holds & detains him in slavery where the plaintiff says he is greatly injured & hath sustained Damages to five, hundred Dollars & there fore he sues &c.

We command you to summon Robert Cohen that he be and appear before the Judge of our Circuit court at the next term thereof to be held at the city of St Louis within and for the county of Saint Louis on the fourth monday of july next then and there to answer unto David Wilson of a plea of trespass assault and battery and false imprisonment wherefore the plaintiff says he is greatly injured and hath sustained damage to five hundred dollars and have you then there this writ
