                    <p>Know all men by these <lb/>
                        presents that we <persName>Isaac William</persName> &amp; <lb/>
                        <persName>Samuel Willi</persName> of the City of St Louis <lb/>
                        State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> are held &amp; firmly <lb/>
                        bound to the State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> in the <lb/>
                        sum of two hundred _ dollars the payment <lb/>
                        whereof we hereby bind ourselves our <lb/>
                        executors administrators &amp; <choice>
                     <orig>afsigns</orig>
                     
                  </choice>
                    </p>
                    <p>The condition of the above <lb/>
                        obligation is such that whereas the said <lb/>
                        <persName>Isaac Williams</persName> 
                  <add place="above">a free person of colour</add> has this day obtained a <lb/>
                        license <del rend="strikethrough">to</del> from the County Court of St Louis <lb/>
                        &amp; State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> aforesaid to reside <lb/>
                        in the <unclear unit="word" quantity="1" rend="written"/> of this State under an act <lb/>
                        entitled an act the more effectually <lb/>
                        to prevent free persons of colour from <lb/>
                        entering this State &amp; other purposes <lb/>
                        approved <date when="1843-02-23">February 23<hi rend="superscript">rd</hi> A.D 1843</date> 
                  <lb/>
                        Now therefore if the said <persName>Isaac Williams</persName> 
                  <lb/>
                        shall continue of good moral charact- <lb rend="hyphen"/>er &amp; behavior &amp; to support himself <lb/>
                        by lawful <sic>imployment</sic> then this <lb/>
                        obligation to be void &amp; null other- <lb rend="hyphen"/>
                        wise to remain in full force &amp; <lb/>
                        virtue
