Chouteau Sylvester Labbadie, William Clarke , William Morrison Peter Menard C Andrew Henry . and Reuben Lewis Traders Merchants in company under the name firm and style of the Missouri Fur Company complain of Thomas James of a plea of trespass on the case for that the said Thomas James as the County aforesaid on the day of october in the year One Thousand Eight hundred & Nine by his certain prompting him of that July by him subcribing to the plaintiff then and there delivering promising then by the name of the Missouri fur Company to pay then on order the sum of Hundred & forty three dollars eighty one cents for receiving being for that he therein is and thereby acknowledged to owe them.

You the said defendant - though of the refusing and still inform the same sum of money on any part thereof to the plaintiff to pay to damages Four Hundred dollars

We command you to take Thomas James if he may be found within your bailiwick and him safely keep so that you may have his body before the judges of our court of common pleas, to be held at the town of St. Louis , within and for the County of St. Louis , on the fourth of October then there to answer unto Manuel Lisa Peter Chouteau August P . Chouteau , Sylvester Labadie, William Clark, William Morrison , Pierre Menard , Andrew Henry , and Reuben Lewis merchants in company with the same firm of the Missouri Fur Company in a plea of trespass on the case to the damage of the said plaintiff the sum of four hundred dollars- and have you then there this writ.
