                    <p>Know all men by these presents that<lb/>
                    I <persName>Eli Delaney</persName> as principal and N J Eaton<lb/>
                    as security are held and firmly bound unto<lb/>
                    the State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> in the first and full<lb/>
                    sum of two hundred Dollars for the true<lb/>
                    payment of which said sum of money<lb/>
                    we bind ourselves our and each of our<lb/>
                    heirs executors administrators and <choice>
                     <orig>afsigns</orig>
                     
                  </choice>
                  <lb/>
                    jointly and severally firmly by these presents<lb/>
                    sealed wit our seals and dated this the<lb/>
                    <date when="1843-05-24">24th day of May in the year of our <lb/>
                    Lord one thousand eight hundred and<lb/>
                    forty three.</date>

                    <p>The condition of the above obligation<lb/>
                    is such that whereas the said <persName>Eli Delaney</persName> is<lb/>
                    about to obtain a license from the county<lb/>
                    court of St. Louis County state of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice>
                  <lb/>
                    Now if said License should be granted<lb/>
                    and the said <persName>Eli</persName> should continue to be<lb/>
                    of good behavior during the contin-<lb/>
                    uance of said license within the <lb/>
                    meaning of an act of The General<lb/>
                    <choice>
                     <orig>Afsembly</orig>
                     
                  </choice> of the State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice>

                    entitled "An act more effectually to <lb/>
                    prevent free persons of color from<lb/>
                    coming into this state <add place="above"> + for other purposes</add> approved <date when="1843-02-23">23d<lb/>
                    February 1843</date>_ This the above obligation<lb/>
                    to be void else to be and remain in<lb/>
                    full force and virtue</p>
