                    <p>Know all men by these presents that we <persName>Matilda<lb/>
                    Reed</persName> a free woman of color as principal and <persName>Benjamin<lb/>
                    Saiy</persName> as security are held and firmley bound in<lb/>
                    the sum of two hundred dollars Each to the<lb/>
                    State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> for the true payment of<lb/>
                    which Sum we bind our selves our heirs<lb/>
                    firmly by these presents sealed with our seals<lb/>
                        and dated this <date when="1843-12-21">twenty first day of Dec 1843</date>
               </p>
                    <p>The condition of the above obligation<lb/>
                    is such that whereas the county court of<lb/>
                    St. Louis at <unclear unit="words" quantity="1" rend="strikethrough">pre</unclear> the December Term thereof<lb/>
                        in the year afroesaid has granted a <lb/>
                        <sic>licence</sic> to the said <persName>Matilda Reed</persName> to reside<lb/>
                        in the <unclear unit="words" quantity="1" rend="strikethrough">county of</unclear> State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> now if<lb/>
                    the said <persName>Matilda Reed</persName> shall be of good<lb/>
                    behaviour during her residence in the State<lb/>
                    of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> then above obligation shall be<lb/>
                    null and void otherwise to be &amp; remain<lb/>
                    in full force &amp; effect</p>
