                    <p>Know all men by these presents that I <persName>Hannah <lb/>
                        Preston</persName> as principal and <persName>Thurman B Hudson</persName> 
                  <lb/>
                        as security are held and firmly bound <lb/>
                        unto the State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> in the just and <lb/>
                        full sum of four hundred dollars that <lb/>
                        is to say the said <persName>Hannah</persName> and the said <persName>Hud- <lb rend="hyphen"/>
                        son</persName> in the sum of two hundred dollars each <lb/>
                        for the true payment of which said sum of <lb/>
                        money we bind ourselves one and each of our <lb/>
                        heirs executors administrators and <choice>
                     <orig>afsigns</orig>
                     
                  </choice> 
                  <lb/>
                        jointly and severally firmly by these presents <lb/>
                        sealed with our seals &amp; dated this <date when="1843-05-04">fourth <lb/>
                        day of May in the year of our Lord one <lb/>
                        thousand eight hundred &amp; forty three</date>.
                    </p>
                    <p>The condition of the above obligation is <lb/>
                        such that whereas the said <persName>Hannah</persName> 
                  <lb/>
                        hath this day obtained from the St Louis <lb/>
                        County Court a license to remain in <lb/>
                        this state under the provisions of an <lb/>
                        act of the General <choice>
                     <orig>Afsembly</orig>
                     
                  </choice> of the State <lb/>
                        <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> entitled an act more effectually <lb/>
                        to prevent free persons of color from <lb/>
                        entering into this state and for other pur- <lb rend="hyphen"/>
                        poses" approved <date when="1843-02-23">February 23<hi rend="superscript">rd</hi> 1843</date>
                    </p>
                    <p>Now if the said Hannah shall be of <lb/>
                        good behavior during the continuance <lb/>
                        of said license then the above obligation <lb/>
                        to be void else to be &amp; remain in full <lb/>
                        force
                    </p>
