                        as  security are held and firmly bound unto this <lb/>

                        four hundred dollars that is to say the said <persName>Ellen Buckner</persName> in the sum of two hundred doll<lb/>
                        ars, and the said <persName>Pete <choice>
                        <orig>Cunefs</orig>

                     <abbr>Wm</abbr>Killsmiller</persName> in the sum<lb/>
                        one hundred dollars <add place="above"> each</add> for the true payment of<lb/>
                        which we bind ourselves our are each of  our  heirs executors administrators and <choice>

                        jointly and severally firmly by these presents<lb/>
                        sealed with our seals and dated this the <date when="2012-05-03">third</date>
                  <lb/>
                        day of May in the year of our Lord are these<lb/>
                        and eight hundred and forty three.</p>
                    <p>The condition of the above obligation such<lb/>
                        that whereas the said <persName>Ellen Buckner</persName> has this<lb/>
                        day obtained from the county court of St<lb/>
                        Louis County a License to remain in this state<lb/>
                        under the provision of an act of the General<lb/>
                        <choice>
                     <orig>Afsembly</orig>
                     
                  </choice> of the state of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> entitled"An<lb/>
                        act more effectually to prevent free persons of <lb/>
                        color from entering into this state and for other <lb/>
                        purposes" Approved February the twenty third<lb/>
                        in the year of our Lord one thousand eight<lb/>
                        hundred and forty three. Now if the said <persName>Ellen<lb/>
                            Buckner</persName> shall be of good behavior during<lb/>
                        the continuance of said License then the above<lb/>
                        obligation to be null &amp; void else to be and rem-<lb/>
                        ain in full force and virtue</p>
