                    <p>Know all Men by These Presents, That we <persName>Gustavus Brown</persName>
                  <lb/> as
                        prinipal, and <persName>Janice E Woodruff</persName> and <persName>Marcus P Woodruff</persName> as securities are<lb/> held and firmly
                        bound unto the State of Missouri<lb/> in the just and<lb/> full sum of one thousand Dollars<lb/>
                        to the payment whereof well and truly to be made we<lb/> bind ourselves, our heirs,
                        executors and administrators<lb/> firmly by these presents, sealed with our
                        seals, and<lb/> dated at St Louis this day of <lb/>
                  <date when="1846-12">December 1846</date>
               </p>
                    <p>The condition of the above Obligation is such, that whereas, the County Court of the county<lb/>
                        of Saint Louis did, on the day of <date when="1846-12">December in the year Eighteen hundred and forty six</date>, grant to the<lb/>
                        said <persName>Gustavus Brown</persName>, (a free man of color) to reside<lb/> in the state of Missouri<lb/> Now if the said <persName>Gustavous<lb/>
                        Brown</persName> shall be of good behavior and in all respects depart hemself as an orderly &amp; respectable citizen then<lb/>
                        the above obligation to be void, otherwise to remain<lb/> in full force and virtue</p>
