                             <p>Know all men by these presents that we <persName>Lewis Mason</persName> 
                  <lb/>
                             a free man of Color as principal and <persName>Samuel<lb/>
                             Black</persName> as security are held and firmly bound in <lb/>
                             the sum of two hundred dollars each to the state of <lb/>
                             <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> for the payment of which we bind<lb/>
                             ourselves our heirs +c firmly by these presents<lb/>
                             sealed with our seals and dated this <date when="1844-01-11">eleventh<lb/>
                             day of January in the year eighteen hundred<lb/>
                             and forty four_______________</date>
               </p>
                    <p>The condition of this obligation as such<lb/>
                    that whereas the County Court of St. Louis County <lb/>
                    at the December term thereof on the year afores<lb/>
                    aid granted a License to the said <persName>Lewis Mason</persName>
                  <lb/>
                    to reside in the State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> Now if the<lb/>
                    said <persName>Lewis Mason</persName> shall be of good behaviour<lb/>
                    during his residence in said state then the<lb/>
                    above obligation shall be Null _ void otherwise<lb/>
                    to remain in full force &amp; effect<lb/>
                    In testimony whereof the said persons<lb/>
                    have here to set their hands and offered their<lb/>
                    seals this day + year aforesaid</p>
