                    <p>To all who shall see these presents-Greeting:<lb/>
                        Know Ye that
                        <seg rend="form-fill-in"><persName>Julia Ann, alias <note place="above">Jane Bates</note></persName></seg>aged<seg rend="form-fill-in">Twenty eight</seg><lb/>
                        years, <seg rend="form-fill-in">five</seg> feet<seg rend="form-fill-in">1 1/2</seg> inches high,<seg rend="form-fill-in"> bright mulatto,<lb/>
                      
                        some freckles on face, scar on the right side of<lb/>
                        the forehead.________</seg><lb/>
                        and by occupation a <seg rend="form-fill-in">Washer Woman</seg><lb/>
                        having on the <date when="1861-05-20"><seg rend="form-fill-in">Twentieth</seg> day of <seg rend="form-fill-in">May</seg> in the<lb/>
                            year of our Lord eighteen hundred and <del rend="strikethrough">forty</del><seg rend="form-fill-in">sixtyone</seg></date> produced satisfactory<lb/>
                        evidence before the <note place="above">Board of</note> County <del rend="strikethrough">Court</del> <note place="above">commissioners</note> of said county, that <seg rend="form-fill-in">s</seg>he is of the class of <lb/>
                        free negroes and mulattoes who are authorized by law to be licensed by said<lb/>
                        <del rend="strikethrough">Court</del><note place="above">Board</note>, to reside within the State of Missouri; that <seg rend="form-fill-in">s</seg>he is of good charac=<lb/>
                        ter and behavior, and capable of supporting <seg rend="form-fill-in">her</seg>self by lawful employment;<lb/>
                        and having also obtained from said <del rend="strikethrough">Court</del><note place="above">Board</note> an order for a license to reside<lb/>
                        within the State aforesaid: These are, therefore, to license and authorize the<lb/>
                        said <seg rend="form-fill-in"><persName>Julia Ann</persName>, alias <persName>Jane Bates</persName> to reside within the State<lb/>
                        aforesaid, so long as he shall be of good behavior and no longer</seg></p>
