                    <p>Know all men by these presents that I <persName> Mary <lb/>
                        Nicholas</persName> as principal and <persName>James Walters</persName>
                  <lb/>
                    are held and firmly bound unto the state of<lb/>

                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> in the first and full sum of two hund-<lb/>
                    dred dollars for the true payment of which<lb/>
                    and sum of money we bind ourselves our <lb/>
                    and each of our heirs executors administrators<lb/>

                     <orig>afsigns</orig>
                     
                  </choice> jointly + severally firmly by<lb/>
                    these pursuits, sealed with our seals and dated this <date when="1843-05-02">second day of May in the year<lb/>
                    of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty three</date>; The condition of this above<lb/>
                    obligation is such whereas The said Mary<lb/>
                    Nicholas has this day obtained from the<lb/>
                    County Court of St. Louis Court to remain<lb/>
                    in this state under the provisions of an<lb/>
                     act of the General <choice>
                     <orig>Afsembly</orig>

                        State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> entitled "An Act more<lb/>
                        effectually to prevent free persons of <lb/>
                        color from coming into this state and<lb/>
                        for other purposes Now of the said <lb/>
                        Mary shall be of good behavior<lb/>
                        during the continuance of said<lb/>
                        License then this obligation to be void<lb/>
