                    <p>Know all men by these presents that <lb/>
                        we <persName>Elizabeth Bailey</persName> &amp; <persName>Thomas F Anderson</persName> of <lb/>
                        the City of St Louis &amp; State of Missouri are held <lb/>
                        &amp; firmly bound by these presents to the State <lb/>
                        of Missouri in <add place="above">the</add> Sum of five hundred dollars <lb/>
                        for the just &amp; true payment of which we <add place="above">bind</add> 
                  <lb/>
                        ourselves our executors administrators &amp; <choice>
                     <orig>afsigns</orig>
                     
                  </choice>
                    </p>
                    <p>The condition of the above obligation <lb/>
                        is such that whereas the said <persName>Elizabeth Baily</persName> 
                  <lb/>
                        a free woman of Colour of the City of St Louis <lb/>
                        &amp; State Missouri has this day obtained a license <lb/>
                        from the County court of the County of St Louis <lb/>
                        State of Missouri under an Act entitled an act <lb/>
                        the more effectually to prevent free persons of <lb/>
                        Colour from entering this State &amp; other pur- <lb rend="hyphen"/>
                        poses Approved <date when="1843-02-23">February twenty third <lb/>
                        in the year of our Lord one thousand eight <lb/>
                        hundred &amp; forty three</date> Now therefor if the <lb/>
                        said <persName>Elizabeth Baily</persName> shall continue of good <lb/>
                        Moral Character &amp; behaviour &amp; to support <lb/>
                        herself by lawful employment then this <lb/>
                        obligation to be void otherwise to remain <lb/>
                        in full force &amp; virtue As <choice>
