                    <p>Know all men by these presents that we <persName>James Robinson</persName>(a <lb/>
                    free person of color) of the County of Saint Louis and State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice>
                  <lb/>
                        as principal, and <persName>
                     <unclear unit="words" quantity="1" rend="strikethrough">Robert</unclear>
                     <add place="above">Alexander</add>Hamilton</persName> of said County and State as<lb/>
                    security are held and firmly bound unto the State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> in <lb/>
                    the just and full sum of two hundred dollars for the payment of <lb/>
                    which sum well and truly to be made we bind ourselves, our heirs<lb/>
                    and legal representatives._</p>
                    <p>Witness our hands and seals this <date when="1843-05-05">fifth day of May in the<lb/>
                        year of our Lord eighteen hundred and forty three._</date>
               </p>
                    <p>The Condition of the above obligation is such that<lb/>
                    whereas the County Court of the County of Saint Louis did on the <lb/>
                    <date when="1843-05-03">third day of May, eighteen hundred and fortly three</date> grant to the<lb/>
                    said <persName>James Robinson</persName> a license to reside in the state of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> under<lb/>
                    the provisions of an act entitled "an act more effectually to prevent<lb/>
                    free persons of color from entering into this State and for other purposes" approved <date when="1843-02-23">Feb. 23, 1843</date>_Now if teh said <persName>James Robinson</persName>
                  <lb/>
                    shall be of good behavior as required by said act then this bond to be void otherwise to remain in full force and virtue_</p>
