                    <p>Know all men by these presents that we, <persName>Jimima <choice>
                        <orig>Baylefs</orig>

                  </persName>&gt;<lb/>
                        and Israel W. Bartholomews of the city and county of St.<lb/>
                        Louis and State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> are held and firmly bound to <lb/>
                        State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> in teh sum of five hundred dollars<lb/>
                        good and lawful money the payment whereof <lb/>
                        well and truly to be made, we hereby firmly bind ourselves our <lb/>
                        heirs executors and administrators.</p>
                    <p>The condition of the above obligation is such that<lb/>
                        whereas the said <persName>Jimima <choice>
                        <orig>Baylefs</orig>
                        
                     </choice>
                  </persName> a free person of color of the <lb/>
                        city of Saint Louis and State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> aforesaid has this<lb/>
                        day obtained a license from the county court of Saint<lb/>
                        Louis County + State of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice> under and in persuance<lb/>
                        of an act entitled "An act the more effectually to pre-<lb rend="hyphen"/>
                        vent free persons of color from entering the state of <choice>
                     <orig>Mifsouri</orig>
                     
                  </choice>,"<lb/>
                        approved <date when="1843-02-23">February twenty-third A.D. 1843</date>, Now therefore<lb/>
                        if the said <persName>Jimima <choice>
                        <orig>Baylefs</orig>
                        
                     </choice>
                  </persName> shall continue of good moral char-<lb rend="hyphen"/>
                        acter and behavior, and to support herself by lawful em <lb rend="hyphen"/>
                        ployment these this obligation to be void and mull other-<lb rend="hyphen"/>
                        wise to remain and be of full force and virtue.</p>
                    <p>As which our hands and seals <date when="1843-05-02">this second day of May A.D. 1843_</date>
